Concentrated compounds from plants
In purely practical terms, essential oils are concentrated compounds extracted from plants to capture that plant’s aroma, flavor, and natural benefits. The signature scent of a plant is found within their essential oil.
You’ll find these highly potent compounds in plants seed, flower, bark, root, leaf, stem, rind, fruit or resin.
How are essentials oils collected?
In citrus fruits, essential oils are extracted as a by-product of centrifugal force pushing the essential oil out of the peel.
Pressurized steam gently forced through the leaves and stems of basil or peppermint plants weep the essential oil.
Frankincense found in the Boswellia tree is the sap collected by making incisions into the tree’s bark, allowing it to ooze out and harden into the resin.
